CASE STUDIES
Vitiligo

Patients often come for help with problems that are diagnosed as untreatable by conventional doctors. This was the case with several children I saw this summer. They presented with a diagnosis of vitiligo. A condition characterized by areas of  loss of pigmentation of the skin. The homeopathic approach is different for each child but in each of the cases treatment proved very simple and successful with the gradual fading of the area and no new symptoms.

Here's what the mother of one of the children said: "I can’t recommend Sue highly enough.  Last year Niall my 10 year old developed white spots on his cheek.  The doctor told me it was Vitiligo and that there was nothing that could be done.  I was told they were permanent and likely to be appear in other places on his face or body.   I was very upset by this and set about looking for alternative treatments.  Having had positive results from homeopathy myself 20 years previously I thought I would find a local homeopath.  I came across Sue’s website and send her an enquiring e-mail.  She came back to me straight away and discussed the situation.  I felt very re-assured.  She had such a lovely, sensitive and confident manner that I made an appointment. Sue saw Niall for about an hour and was very kind and sensitive. About 5 days later a small vial with his remedy arrived in the post.  After he had taken it Sue and I liaised regularly over the next couple of weeks.  I knew, from my own experience  that sometimes remedies can produce a slight worsening of conditions and this was indeed the case with Niall.  Sue, metaphorically ‘held our hand’ as his face and emotions reacted to the remedy.  We discussed his progress weekly and he repeated the remedy and once again saw a reaction.  After about 6 weeks we had a follow up session and it was clear to us all that the white spots were receding.  By about 12 weeks they were mere faint marks that only the most careful observer could see.  Now, as I write this about 6 months later there is no trace of them at all.  His is completely white mark free!  As a result of this experience, in my view, homeopathy is miraculous, and Sue is a wonderful and gifted practitioner of this remarkable form of medicine.  I will be grateful to her forever.  I can’t adequately put into words what it means to know that my handsome 10 year old no longer has large white marks across his cheeks."

Fear and anxiety
This term had brought several children to see me who have all struggled with problems which presented with the start of term. The internal pressure which we put on ourselves often trigger our own susceptibilities. In children these are rarely identified but quite often something small grows out of proportion. Homeopathy can help put things back into proportion again and this enables the body to repair itself, unhindered by the obstacles of fear and anxiety. One girl was feeling so sick that she could no longer go to school on the bus and was missing days off school. This was putting her further behind with her school work perpetuating the problem. The remedy helped ease the nausea and helped her to relax. Soon she was feeling well enough to complete a full day at school. Gradually she caught up and was back to studying for her exams. This is when it is likely she might need another dose of her remedy so we are watching out should her symptoms return.

Eczema
Eczema is often a diagnosis which presents in many different ways and for which there is no definite test. For some it is weeping and others, dry and cracking. Sometimes the symptoms change from one to the other and in necessitates a change or review of the remedy.  A case this year appeared to have been triggered by a repeated dose of a vaccination. The eczema came out in the area of the armpits and the groin. It was typically very itchy and by the time I saw the child had spread to cover the stomach and genitals. Three days of the remedy and the intensity of the itch had decreased, the area affected had reduced and the redness lessened. After a week it was almost gone and we repeated the remedy and it cleared completely.

Chemotherapy side effects
As homeopaths we are often asked to help patients who are undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. This treatment can lead to significant side effects which can greatly obstruct the health and repair of the patient. These include nausea, vomiting and mouth ulcers.  These conditions may be helped by homeopathy, often enabling the patient to better tolerate their treatment and to complete their course in the time planned.  Mrs J came for help with such side effects. At the time her mouth was extremely dry and she had developed a strongly metallic taste which had stopped her wanting to eat and she had difficulty swallowing. Three different remedies (each helping one specific problem) were needed to treat these side effects but each helped her to recover quickly and to feel better about herself and the future.
